Hi everyone  bigsmile

As you all likely know, this is the time that osprey will be starting to return to the Northeast region from
migration.  I'm very excited to be on alert for the nests that I watch here in Connecticut.

I have had communication with WHOI and sadly, we will not be able to watch this beautiful nest this season
as they are not going to have the cam in operation.  Very sadly, all the negativity that they received last year
has culminated in this decision.  This was from a small group of people overall and I do believe that WHOI feels
bad that the rest of us that treated them and their decisions with respect have to suffer the consequences.

If anything changes, though I doubt it will, they will let me know.

Best wishes for all the osprey nests that you all watch, whether online or in person.  I hope they all make a
safe return.

Sherry, thank you for the notification. I am sorry but understand. I can only imagine the comments/harassment the people at WHOI got over the past 2 years. This has been an uncomfortable/challenging nest to watch & I was hoping for a turn-around year. It might be nice, if anyone can see this nest "live", they could give an occasional report & I'll keep my fingers (and toes) crossed for a good year & an operating camera in 2017.

Bonnie, I was just coming here to post the article -- thanks.  I'm going to post it in the newspaper articles
thread as well.

According to the article, there are three eggs this year.
Hopefully all will be well with them.  pray

The nest has done well this season.  Jeff told me 3 eggs laid, the cam went down before hatch and was not repaired.  I have nesting calendar dates from ground observation, will post end of season.

I have not observed any sibling or adult aggression this season, limited to ground observation.  Male delivered fish and was on his radio tower perch, female was on the the nest or nest perch most observations, both nestlings fed.

Today, first fledge confirmed.   Flew off and back 2 times, just circled and returned, easy landing.  1 adult was on the radio tower, sibling on the nest.

Got photos..haven't checked.

Bonnie this is not the WHOI cam nest.  The nest is Salt Pond/Surf Drive, about 1/2 mile from the WHOI cam nest.  This nest had quads, the runt did't make it, but fledged 3.

The WHOI cam nest fledged both hatched chicks...both juvies doing well...both adults still on site.

Thanks for checking flower

Thanks, Jazzel - I thought the perch on that nest looked different!  It shrunk!   puzzled2
