Sad and happy news, Chris - thanks for bringing it here.

It does sound as if St. Louis is trying to provide a wonderful home for Kali, and for the other bears they hope may join him in time - and they did let Kali and Luna grow up together, as siblings would have done in the wild.

But it is sad that he has to leave his home.

Yes JudyB and hermit .... we always knew that St. Louis was vying for Kali

But  .... with the new Arctic Edge Exhibit opening at the Buffalo Zoo this fall, there were many (me included) that thought maybe they would somehow hang on to Kali ... so .... yes, bittersweet

There has been some great local news video coverage .... from WKBW ....

http://www.wkbw.com/news/an-end-to-buffalo-zoos-polar-bear-power-couple

.... and from WIVB ....

... and WGRZ ....

... and from WBEN AM 930 Radio ..... a story and link to a great photo album ....

.... I just adore them

I would really like to see Kali before he leaves ... but they are not being exact as to when he will go ... they say it could be a couple of days ... or a couple of weeks  puzzled2

... we'll see ... there always seems to be something to do

With Kali long gone to the St Louis Zoo, Luna is the solo polar bear occupant at the Buffalo Zoo.

I have thought a hundred times, 'I need to get down to the Zoo to see her!' .... but life always seems to get in the way

Almost a week ago after a relatively mild winter, we got hit with a blast of the white stuff. One of the local TV Stations, WIVB, Channel 4 did a story on Luna in her brand new Arctic Edge Exhibit habitat ... she sure was enjoying that blast of snow! ...

Love her! Have to get to the Zoo!

The Buffalo Zoo has a reduced admission charge during February .... but... it's windy (50 mph) and nippy today... so I will wait until it warms up a bit and then go visit Luna .... it will give me time to fully recover from all of my ailments

The Toronto Zoo Polar Bear Cub has been enjoying the snow and colder weather ....

From CBC News ... a video ..

Unfortunately, I haven't been back to the Buffalo Zoo ....

I tried on Veterans Day .... but time and the weather did not cooperate   sigh2

I felt especially sad about not making it happen as it was announced that Anana, Luna's Mom, was being would be leaving Buffalo..... to make matters worse, little information was being released on where she was going or why  Huh?
I tend to be more accepting if I know the particulars .... so the situation made me sad

The Buffalo News ran an article with pictures on November 17th ....

http://tinyurl.com/jds3uka

Anana, a 16-year-old polar bear, is leaving the Buffalo Zoo. (Derek Gee/Buffalo News file photo)

Anana in May after she returned from a breeding mission in Chicago. (Derek Gee/Buffalo News file photo)

.... the article did not provide much information regarding the questions .... where? and why?  puzzled2

Today ... the mystery was solved .... we lost Anana .... but we have welcomed a new male P Bear ...
all to support breeding initiatives .....

Buffalo News story at:

Another article at WGRZ .....

...and WIVB ...

http://wivb.com/2016/11/22/buffalo-zoo-welcomes-new-polar-bear/

... wouldn't it be wonderful to have a baby P Bear in the Buffalo Zoo's future!
