An egg has been laid today at the Smith Mountain Lake State Park Osprey Cam in Virginia.
It looks like a spectacular cam! No sound that I can hear, and no night cam, but clear strong picture during daylight. I'll post any more info I can find as to the nest history.

Although situated on the second largest body of freshwater in the state, Smith Mountain Lake State Park is not just for water enthusiasts. In addition to a full range of water related activities, including swimming, fishing and boating, the park offers miles of hiking trails, housekeeping cabins, primitive camping, picnicking, a visitor center and interpretive programs.Smith Mountain Lake itself was created in 1960 when Appalachian Power built a dam on the Roanoke River in Smith Mountain Gap. Construction of the dam was completed in 1966, and in 1967 Appalachian Power donated the first parcel of park's land for the proposed park. The state bought the rest of the park's land over the next six years. The park opened to the public in 1983.

The fish is being taken away, after a tussle over it.  One of the eggs looks like things are imminent.
Hmmmm....the site is running a prerecording right now...so I don't know when this actually happened.
Chatters say the cam is down today....ggrrrrrrr rant2

Yep, they are both there!  bigsmile

The 'regulars' on the SS on UStream apparently have just decided to call them Smith and Virginia.   Cute!  nod2

her right foot or talons. pray

Very sad news here today..........apparently a Great Horned owl got all of the osprey chicks, the last one being
last night.  sosad
I haven't followed the nest this year at all so I'm not sure of all the details.
I believe they had four eggs and think that at least three hatched.  The first one was May 10th so they
were a few weeks old.

Mom was here with a fish and I understand she came in and out a couple times with it looking for her babies.

Fly free little ones........soar with the osprey angels.  love love

Well, at least one of the pair is back.  Folks on SS mentioned seeing female but I'm not sure whether this
is her.

I pray for a better outcome for this nest this year.  pray
